PETERBILT 1100 SERIES
CONVENTIONALS

In mid 1972, Peterbilt designed a new cab to replace the Uni-Lite cab used since 1961. The new cab went into production in late 1972. Some Uni-Lite cab trucks continued to be built until very early 1973. The new cab was called the "1100 series" referring to the 1100 square inches of windshield. The 1100 series cab had bulkhead type doors, was 4 inches taller than the old cab and featured a new instrument panel. The 1100 series cab changed subtly over the years with the most noticeable change being the size of the rear window which increased to 36" wide in 1975. The 1100 series cab was available in a severe service configuration which included steel components. By the late 70's a steel windshield mask option was available creating a "Uni-Lite look" to the severe service cabs.
The photos featured here depict the many configurations of the 1100 series cab as seen on 346, 348, 349, 351, 353, 358, 359, 383, 387 and 397. The 1100 series cab was in production until January 1987. It was officially replaced by the Successors/379 family in October 1986.
Scale model builders should find these photos helpful when building the Revell of Germany Peterbilt 359 and 353, the AMT Peterbilt 359 and wrecker and the Revell/Monogram 359 model kits.
